Dusting out the cobwebs!

June 18th, 2008

I just realized its been a very very long time since I have written anything on my blog!  So much has been going on here and I’ve been extremely busy that I seem to have neglected one of my favorite pastimes!!  So I have a few minutes before I have to leave for my son’s “Moving up to Kindergarten” Picnic and I thought I’d write a brief update!!  (yes, my first born baby is going from juniour kindergarten to senior kindergarten!! I can’t believe my baby is done his first year of school!!)

So what’s new at Laines Magnifiques??? Well, I am just finishing up a co-op order right now!  Wow!!! It was big and a lot of work, but a lot of fun too!!  I hope that everyone enjoys their yummy-licious yarn!!  Its been a great experience for me and I will be so excited to see it all completed and ready to ship!! :-)

I’ve also been busy stocking at Artiste on the 5th and the 25th of each month, and some small stockings on our main store!

Things to look for in the near future are some organic yarns with chemical free dyes, and we are slowly working on a makeover in our storefront design!  Our one year in business anniversary is quickly approaching and we’ll be having a huge bash to celebrate our success!!  Look for lots of fun vendors who will be coming out to celebrate with us, collaborations and a knitters delight collaboration!! :-)  You won’t be disappointed!!! This will all be happening in the month of September!!

Also in the R&D stages is a main www storefront in addition to our Hyena Cart store!!  But that’s all I’m telling for today!! You’ll just have to wait and see what happens ;-)

We’ve also just started a Laines Magnifiques group on Ravelry, you can check it out here: http://www.ravelry.com/groups/laines-magnifiques-hand-painted-yarn

Well, that’s all for now!! :-)  Have a great day!

Painted Patootie & Fishnoodles

April 7th, 2008

What an awesome name!!? I love this store!!? Dawn is the creative WAHM behind this store.? Painted Patootie diapers and Fishnoodles Children’s wear!? As a mom of three Dawn knows what children need and creates beautiful hand painted!

If you are like me, you are probably wondering where the name Fishnoodles came from.? This explanation of Fishnoodles is taken directly from Dawn’s site:

When my husband and I lived in the South, we heard of this wild pastime — people would wade into a stream and wrestle a catfish with their bare hands. It’s called fishnoodling. We just loved that word and it became part of our wacky sense of humor.
Little did I know until recently that some people do consider fishnoodling a serious sport but they call it “hand fishing.”

We always said that one day we’d have a place in the country and call it fishnoodle farm. Well that part hasn’t worked out yet, but we decided to call the business Fishnoodle Industries. The Industries part comes from the name “Vandelay Industries” on the TV show Seinfeld - they invented a name that would sound official when they were really just fooling around.

Dawn decided on Painted Patooties for her the cloth diaper line of her business, her unpainted diapers, and shirts are now a part of her Fishnoodles name!!?

You have to see for yourself the beauty of Dawn’s art!  Here are a few lovely samples of her painted shirts and diapers!!Enjoy! :-)

Wow! How great was that!!!

March 5th, 2008

I just wanted to send out a huge thank you to Genevieve of The Cloth Canoe and Lori of Beneath the Rowan Tree!!!  What a fun collab that was to put out!!  I am so proud to say that I was a part of such a fun event!!  Congratulations Genevieve for such a successful first day of your One Year Anniversary week long stocking!!!  Can’t wait to see what other goodies you’ve got for the remainder of the week!!

And thank you to all the Hyenas who made it such a success!!! :-)

Taking Pictures!!

February 29th, 2008

I am forever fighting with my camera to take accurate pictures of my yarn.  It’s a majorly important part of my business and something I feel needs to be just right in order to give the customer a clear view of what I am selling.

So, I have some really pretty yarn up for sale on my HC right now, and it was brought to my attention by a close friend that one colour looked brown (its actually a pretty shade of dark green!)  After looking at it again, I realized that it did look brown and began to panic!  This morning I took a new picture of the yarn in natural light (the first pic was taken at night in a well lit room)..and what an amazing difference!!!

Check this out! :-)

Before: (evening picture, light source was my dining room chandelier)

After: (natural light)

What a difference it made!!  The second picture looks like the actual colourway!!  I have definitely learned from experience this time!! I will never, ever take pictures at night again!  Unless of course I go and invest in a light box or something!! :)

Collaboration!!!!

February 27th, 2008

I’m am so excited to announce an upcoming collaboration for a fellow Canadian WAHM’s 1 year anniversary!!!! The Cloth Canoe is celebrating One Year on March 4th, 2008! For this event we have a Canadian collaboration of sorts! Lori from Beneath the Rowan Tree, Genevieve from The Cloth Canoe and myself have come up with a wonderful summer set consisting of a hand-dyed hand-painted T-shirt from BTRT, a matching diaper from The Cloth Canoe, and a pair of hand-painted, hand-knit shorties in a colourway to match both the shirt and diaper!! Just for your viewing pleasure, and to give you a small sneak peek, I have added a picture of the shorties that will go with this fabulous set!!

First off here is the yarn hand-painted on BFL in a gender neutral colourway, gorgeous golden yellow, red, tan, and brown with a little natural peeking through.

And here is the yarn all knit up into a wonderful soft pair of Large Shorties!

I was so pleased at how these turned out and how well they matched the diaper and shirt that these two talented WAHMs made!!

To see the entire set you’ll just have to wait for previews at The Cloth Canoe!!

Congratulations again to Genevieve for celebrating 1 year in business!!! :-)

HC Spotlight - Lautzy Soap!

February 27th, 2008

The first WAHP I am going to highlight this week is Jennifer of Lautzy Soap! Jennifer created her business as a way to help her family deal with sensitive skin and ezcema. She enjoyed doing it so much that she created her business to help other families.

I have to say that after browsing her store and viewing her products I am completely in love. I will be purchasing some yummy Oatmeal and Cinammon soap for my two little ones and myself as we all have ezcema and extremely sensitive skin!

And then there is the Peppermint Mochaccino!! This is on my list of future purchases as well! Doesn’t it look so yummy!! If it wasn’t soap I would eat it!

I hope you enjoy browsing and purchasing at Lautzy Hand Made Soap Shop as much as I have!! These are just a small sampling of all the soapy goodness Jennifer has to offer! Be sure to check out all her listings!

I have discovered a new favorite Hyena store and can’t wait to shop there soon!!! I will be adding to this blog as soon as I’ve tried these fabulous looking soaps!!

Hyena Cart Spotlight ~ Mama Stone Creations

February 15th, 2008

Well, I’ve been away from this for the last couple of weeks but this week I am back in action, and blogging about Mama Stone Creations. Ashley is a stay at home mom to her two children and a fellow Canadian! She lives in Beautiful British Columbia and loves crafting in general but is currently focusing on her knitting. She creates some beautiful knit products on both her hyena Cart shop and on her Etsy shop. Here are some wonderful examples of her knitting:

But knitting is not all Ashley can do!! She has some beautiful jewelry listed on her hyena cart right now!!

My two favorite pieces are the following:

I just love the natural look of the beadwork!! Breath taking!!

Besides knitting and jewelry making, Ashley also makes custom animated banner ads!!
She is definitely a wonderfully talented mama!! You should really go have a look and see all the wonderful goodness she has to offer!!
